FIRE BAN IN EFFECT

Effective June 2, 2025.
In accordance with Westlock County Fire Bylaw 56-2024 section 11.0, a Fire Control Order is now in effect for lands within Westlock County Jurisdiction located outside the Forest Protection Area.
 
No new fire permits will be issued.
 
It is imperative that property owners check all existing burn sites to ensure that they are out and not cause a spring wildfire.
 
·         Suspended: Permits will not be issued.
·         Prohibited: Exploding Targets & Tracer
Rounds;
·         Prohibited: Backcountry Wood Fire Pit
on Public Lands or Unsupervised
Random Campgrounds; and Back Yard Fire Pits
·         Prohibited: Open flame oil devices (e.g.,
tiki torches, deep fryers)·        
Prohibited: Discharging Fireworks;
·         Prohibited: Burn Barrels;
 
 
Prohibited: OHV off-highway vehicle, for recreational purposes, is prohibited on all land located within Westlock County Jurisdiction.
 
This Order does not apply to the use of any off-highway vehicle:
 
a. on private lands; or
 
b. by any individual when exercising a right recognized and affirmed under Part II of the Constitution Act, 1982 or a right under section 12 of the Natural Resources Transfer Agreement or when travelling to a location to exercise such a right.
 
Allowed: Incinerator Regulated Under the Environmental Protection and Enhancement Act.
 
Allowed: Portable propane fire pits, cooking or heating that are CSA approved or UL certified.
  
 
** All devices must be CSA approved and used as per manufacturer standards. An enclosed facility or device is one that is fully contained with a chimney that has a spark arrestor. Users are still responsible for care and attendance of all devices and should reduce their use during fire restrictions and bans.
 
If you are burning or conducting hot work (gas torch, grinding, cutting etc...)  you SHALL have water, fire blanket and extinguishing equipment handy and ready.
 
Westlock County urges everyone to use extreme caution when working or driving in grassy areas, be mindful of hot exhaust and keep vehicles clean and free of debris as smoldering debris can fall off and start fires.
