Westlock County receives funding from the Strategic Transportation Infrastructure Program (STIP)
WESTLOCK COUNTY, AB – Westlock County is pleased to announce that it has secured $375,000.00 in funding from the Government of Alberta for one bridge culvert replacement project.
"Reliable transportation infrastructure is essential to supporting strong rural communities and a growing economy. This investment will help Westlock County maintain critical infrastructure, improving the resilience of the county’s transportation network and supporting those who depend on it every day." Said MLA Glenn van Dijken for Athabasca-Barrhead-Westlock.
The grant is funded under the Government of Alberta’s Transportation and Economic Corridors’ Strategic Transportation Infrastructure Program (STIP). This provides municipalities with funding support for the development and maintenance of local transportation infrastructure including roads, bridges, and community airports.
“Investing in this transportation infrastructure is an investment in the safety, reliability and long-term prosperity of our community. This funding will help address a critical need, improve transportation connections and ensure this important infrastructure can continue to serve residents, businesses and our growing economy. We’re proud to make this investment and deliver a project that will have a lasting benefit for our community.” Reeve Christine Wiese.
The bridge culvert requiring the replacement is approximately 59 years old and has reached its end of life service. Replacing the culvert will help local residents, primarily involving farming, ranching, and agri-businesses located East of Jarvie to continue to provide travel and operate safely in our community.
The approved project includes: 1. Bridge Culvert Replacement Project at NW-12-63-27- W4M The structure carrying Township Road 632 over at tributary to the Pembina River will be replaced. The total estimated cost for the project is $500,000, with the Province contributing $375,000 and the County $125,000; to be completed by the end of 2027.
