Drainage Survey Happening Now

 

Please be advised that V3 Companies will be completing drainage survey work in Busby, Pickardville, Vimy and Pibroch.

The survey work is being done to help identify existing drainage issues and understand how water is moving through each hamlet. The work may also include some drone-based topographic surveying

V3 crews are out in the hamlets on behalf of the County completing ground-based survey work for the Hamlet Drainage Assessment Study. The work may also include some drone-based topographic survey. Their vehicles are marked for identification.

Curbside recycling collection is coming October 1, 2026

Starting October 1, Alberta will fully transition to an extended producer responsibility (EPR) residential recycling program for single-use packaging and paper products. This marks a major shift in how recycling is managed and funded across the province. The new system will reduce costs for municipalities and taxpayers and enables a more coordinated, efficient recycling system across the province that will help improve recycling rates and environmental outcomes.

 

This curbside bag collection is will be starting in the hamlets October 1, 2026 and occur every Thursday.

State of Agricultural Disaster Declared
 

At the Regular Meeting of Council on July 14, 2026, Council declared a State of Agricultural Disaster due to excessive moisture condition that have resulted in saturated soils, drowned-out crop acres, forced heading in grain crops, reduced yield potential, and below-average hay and silage production, for the purpose of raising awareness of the impacts affecting agricultural producers and advocating for continued provincial assessment and support, recognizing that the declaration does not automatically trigger municipal, provincial or federal funding assistance.

 

It is important to understand that a declaration of agricultural disaster does not automatically result in additional funding programs, provincially or federally. It does raise awareness to governments of the challenges local producers face, which could lead to some form of support and assistance.

Fees, Rates, and Charges Bylaw Updates

Westlock County Planning and Development has updated Schedule “F” of the Fees, Rates and Charges bylaw (#51-2023) which will come into effect as of July 15, 2026.

Some of the key changes include:


Electrical, Gas, Plumbing, and Private Sewage Permit fees increased to align with the Alberta Safety Codes Council (ASCA). Building Permits have increased but remain lower than ASCA’s recommended fee amount to ease the cost for residents.

The proposed Fees, Rates, and Charges were informed by both the recommendations of the ASCA and a review of fee structures implemented by neighboring municipalities.
